It is a non-toxic diesel exhaust fluid that is made up of high purity urea and deionized. It’s odourless and non-toxic, and can potentially corrode metallic surfaces. The use of DEF is seen mostly in commercial spaces where the emission of flue gas is at its peak.
Having said that, DEF can be used in vehicles too, but that vehicle has to be a new diesel vehicle, which is equipped with an exhaust treatment system called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR).
