What Is Agriculture/Irrigation Water Testing

The usability of irrigation water is primarily determined by the amount and types of salts dissolved in it. These salts dissolve into the irrigation water because of the weathering of rocks such as lime, gypsum, and other minerals. In irrigation, these salts play a vital role as the water will eventually evaporate or be used by the crops, and these salts will be left behind in the soil and alter its composition. Multiple soils and cropping related problems manifest if the salt content in the soils increases beyond a certain level. The quality of the irrigation water is calculated keeping in mind how the salts present in it affect the crop and the soil in the short and the long run.
